In this message, Pastor Marshall teaches from Luke 2:15-35. In these verses, Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the Temple for dedication. Simeon greets the parents and gives them a warning of how Jesus will divide Israel and expose the hearts of many people. This story reminds us that Jesus came to bring peace, but the path to peace includes tribulation and discomfort.
In this message, Lyell teaches from Luke 1-2 and Jeremiah 29. He shows how Israel was instructed to wait for God’s promise of salvation, but the waiting caused the people to form a different idea of salvation. Israel was expecting God to save them as a king who defeated Rome; they were not ready for a baby in a manger who came to conquer sin. This message reminds us that believing in God is not equal to placing your hope in God. This advent we should examine our lives and place all of our hope in God, not this world.
In this message, Pastor Marshall teaches from Isaiah 8-9. These chapters contrast the themes of light and dark, and the gift of salvation through Christ’s death on the cross. As Christians, we borrow these symbols of light, gifts, and a tree to celebrate the first Advent while preparing for the second Advent.

In these chapters, Paul reminds us that our identity is in Christ, and the cornerstone of that identity is the resurrection of Jesus. Without the power of resurrection, everything we believe as Christians is pointless. The reality that Jesus defeated the greatest enemy, death, gives us hope in a better world. God has the power to bring the dead back to life and transform our lives.
In this message, Pastor Marshall teaches from 1 Corinthians 12-14. In these chapters, Paul instructs the Corinthian church about spiritual gifts and how to exercise them in the corporate worship gathering. He encourages them to use love as a guide for using gifts in corporate worship and to prefer using gifts that edify the most amount of people. These chapters guide our use of spiritual gifts as well and remind us to live in a way that is dependent on the Spirit of God and not our natural abilities.
In this message, Pastor Marshall teaches from 1 Corinthians 10-11. In these chapters, Paul continues to answer the church's questions about living a life of obedience to Jesus. He explains the difference between buying meat sacrificed to idols and participating in idol worship ceremonies. He cautions Christians to use their freedom for the good of God's kingdom rather than personal fulfillment, and he corrects the church's mishandling of communion. While some of these issues are not relevant to our lives as Christians today, the principles Paul explains are a benefit to us.
In this message, Pastor Marshall teaches from 1 Corinthians 8-9. In these chapters, Paul continues to respond to the church's questions about living out their faith. Specifically, can a Christian eat meat that was sacrificed to idols? Paul’s response helps the church ask a better question; should a Christian eat meat that was sacrificed to idols. Technically, a Christian has the right to eat whatever they want, but just because we have the freedom to do something doesn’t mean we should take the liberty to do so. Paul’s answer helps us understand how to think about issues of maturity in the church and how we should treat other believers who act immature.
In this message, Pastor Marshall teaches from 1 Corinthians 5-7. In these chapters, Paul addresses the issues of sexual immorality, lawsuits, and marriage within the church. He encourages this young church to address the problems of sin within their community and strive to live content lives. This message is vital for our culture as well because the wisdom of this world tells everyone to live their best life now and make decisions based on what makes you happy. However, what makes us happy now often brings longterm sadness and destruction.
