The Plan

It has been said that Bible memorization “is absolutely fundamental to spiritual formation....because it is a fundamental way of filling our minds with what it needs.” Hiding God’s word in our heart not only protects us from sin (Psalm 119:11), but it helps us conform to Christ, it provides comfort and counsel both to us and people we love, it helps us communicate the gospel to unbelievers, and stirs up an enjoyment for God, who He is, and His ways (Piper, 2006).

This year, we will continue the spiritual discipline of scripture memorization and have provided you with a tool and schedule for each week’s scripture. Click the button below to download the memory verses in list form or in bookmark form.

Bonus Challenge

Along with our weekly scripture memorization, we have provided 2 scripture memorization challenges for you and your family. The goal is to memorize one passage every 6 months. This provides a powerful way to learn, meditate, and discuss longer passages of scripture together. It is exciting to watch how easily it is for younger children to learn these passages and begin to hide them in their heart, and it reminds adults of the importance and power of memorizing scripture. The scripture memorization challenges for 2026 are:

January – June 30

PHILIPPIANS 4:4-8 (ESV)

Philippians 4:4-8 (ESV)

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

July 1 – December 31

PSALM 23 (ESV)

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2  He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

3  He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
